She’s a little bit country, he’s a little bit rock n’ roll .. but why

I try to write blogs that inform or at least provide some insight as to why something plays out the way it did or does.  But lately I have been stumped as to why I’ve found that women prefer country and men like rock.  This is ingeneral.  I know some women who like rock and men that like country but on average I’ve found that she is a little country and he is a little rock n’ roll.  True to form, I’m writing this blog to inform …. me.

I’ve been reading information on Evolutionary Psychology from a book called “Why Beautiful People Have Daughters.”  The reasons they give not only are plausible but are very intriguing.  I will write more about this later but the point is it left me wondering.  I wonder about why “he did what he do,”  to quote Tory James.

My question is this - Do you know why women and men prefer differing music?  Maybe it’s something in the song or how it’s played?  I haven’t the slightest idea and would appreciate some insight.  So what do you think the answer is?  Don’t be coy, drop us an email.  You know support@asklg.net.

If you don’t care then here’s something use you might be able to use.  Actually it’s a word but I’m not going to hold it against me.  The word is quixotic(which means dreamy).  You can use the word in a sentence like, “Patrick dempsy is ssooo McQuixotic.”  Impress your friends and others with your BIG … vocabulary

Day 50: Celebrating the 5-0 with friends

My buddy technology called, so him and Lifehack came over today for some fun.  Lets go right into what we talked about! According to Engadget, my cell phone provider, AT&T, has dropped some extra cash on those fancy Microsoft Surface table computers.  You can drop any AT&T display phone on the table and get the specifications.  Putting multiple phones on the table allows you to directly compare them.  Pretty awesome technology overall, but it certainly doesn’t make help them not drop my calls.  Take a look at the new surface mod:

Surface at AT&T

Being an avid soccer fan, I truly can appreciate anything David Beckham does.  Although I’m not a huge fan of Beckham since he plays for the Galaxy instead of my ol’ Dynamo, its nice to see he’s getting appreciated for his 100th cap in England by an American company.  Look at this hunk of gold Apple presented him with [via Gizmodo]:

Speaking of Apple, the iTunes store has finally hit #1 according to Ars Technica.  It seems the iTunes store is now the leading seller of music.  This includes all those people who sell CDs.  Yes, congrats to Apple.  Its been a while but the digital wave has apparently caught on.  Now can you make it cheaper?  I’m just saying…

Finally, Lifehack commenters have come up with some genius advice for the younger generation (me?).  I really hope some of these things stick with me.  I sometimes need to take this advice:

8. Keep playing, laughing and having fun, don’t get too serious!

Other times, you just have to go for it.  I thought #20 was funny:

20. Get over it and kiss the girl!

Finally for some inspiration, this was thrown in:

32. Whatever you do, believe in yourself. You have untapped potential, and you will accomplish everything you have dreamed about.

Music reviews

Posted at...Posted at April 1st, 2008 by Jman2k3 in Justin | CommentsNo Comments

I am here to review some of the latest CDs I have recently picked up in stores and the last movie I saw.

The first CD I am here to review is Lupe Fiasco’s The Cool. All I have to say is wow. This is Lupe’s best CD to date. Not only is this CD feature music you can just listen to all the way through it has brought him mainstream success as well. Some of my favorite tracks are Superstar, Go Go Gadget Flow, and Hip Hop Saved My Life ft. the lovely Nikki Jean. Go pick this up you won’t be dissappointed.

Rating: *** out of ****

The next album on the list is Trilla by Rick Ross. This album I had high hopes for, but it didn’t live up to the hype with me because most of the good tracks didn’t make the final draft of the album. Some of the tracks that were released as street and mixtape singles like Street Money ft. Flo Rida and Criminal Minds ft. Akon didn’t make the album and those two are just some of the better music that was left off the final album. The album is good, but it could have been better if the other tracks made the final cut or if it was a double CD with them on it.

Rating: ** out of ****

The last album on the list is the latest from the WWE in their long line of music CDs with WWE the music vol. 8. If you’re a wrestling fan of entrance music I give this album a rating of 3 and 1/2 stars out of for because this is the best CD they have put out since vol. 3. Here is my take on all the entrance themes.

[01] Jeff Hardy - Awesome… when I can listen to a theme as if it were a normal everyday song you would hear on the radio, it’s got my vote. 9/10
[02] Kofi Kingston - Catchy. Love the reggae feel and Collie Buddz does a hell of a job on this theme. My favorite of the whole album. 10/10
[03] Beth Phoenix - Kind of disappointed it’s not her earlier version of this because that was the best one, but this is good none the less. 8/10
[04] Mark Henry - This song is terrible. It doesn’t come close to the bad assness of his current theme “Some Bodies Gonna Get it.” 5/10
[05] Edgeheads - See Jeff Hardy. 9/10
[06] Jillian Hall - Good for a laugh… great theme that fits her character well. 7/10
[07] Vince McMahon - Not too bad… grew on me a little but hope Vince never uses it. 7.5/10
[08] ECW Theme - Why, oh why didn’t they use the TV mix? They use the same choruses throughout the entire song. Sounds repetitive. Verses make up for a lot of it though. 7/10
[09] Jesse & Festus - Good theme, but too repetitive. 7/10
[10] Candice Michelle - Eh, it’s okay I guess even though I don’t care for techno/dance/rave music all that much. 6/10
[11] John Morrison - THE best song on this album. 10/10
[12] Shelton Benjamin - Corny lyrics at times but good remake nonetheless. 7/10
[13] Mr. Kennedy - The band that remade this theme absolutely destroyed it. The original was good the way it was and this version is like a crime against humanity. 4/10
[14] Chris Jericho - Okay remake… don’t dislike it as much as most of everyone else. 6.5/10
BONUSES:
[15] Ashley - Don’t need to hear this full… it sucks BAAAAD. 2/10
[16] Hornswoggle - Too boring. 3/10
[17] Santino Marella - Good Italian mix of opera and rock. 9.5/10

Day 42: Its the cool.

Posted at...Posted at March 12th, 2008 by Will in William | CommentsNo Comments

As I prepare for my week in San Fran, I realized I should get new music.  Music makes my life go ’round.  I can’t really code without it.  Actually, its hard to function in general without music.  Wow… Its worse than drugs.

The Cool

Its been a while since I’ve gotten some music for my mp3 player though.  I typically tune in to 93.3/97.9 and listen to DJ Rockwell (or DJ Automatic) which I realize defeats the whole purpose of having a mp3 player, but it makes me happy.  Now that my iRiver Clix is getting bored having some old school Gym Class/JayZ/Nas on there, I decided to get the Cool by Lupe Fiasco.  I’ve been rockin’ Fiasco since I discovered him on Joost with the single, “I Gotcha.”  It was hot, so I expect big things out of his new album.  He didn’t disappoint by any means.  While every song is pretty good, “Hip Hop Saved my Life” is damn hot.  If features a soulful lady, Nikki Jean, and is a shout out to Houston rappers.  If rap is your thing, you got to go YouTube it.

Now Nikki Jean video blogs everyday on YouTube.  I have mad respect for anyone who can do that on a consistent basis.  Just blogging every day I have class (like today!) has been pretty hard.  Finding material that relates to both me and my audience is hell.  As you can tell, today is all about music.  The reason?  I couldn’t find anything better to talk about.  So, I am in awe of Nikki for pulling that off.  Plus she’s a great singer.  Check out her YouTube stuff, here.

Finally, my bro, Brian, found this video online.  Its eye opening.  You should definitely watch.  Do The Test.
