My thoughts on the Houston Rockets selections in the 2008 NBA Draft
At first, my thoughts on the Rockets choosing Nicolas Batum as their first round picked sucked because Chris Douglas-Roberts, who in my opinion is the superstar of the Memphis Tigers team not Derrick Rose, was still available. I mean Batum is only nineteen years old and the announcers even said he would play for the European League for another three years to improve his skills. I thought this was pretty stupid since the Rockets need players that are ready to go now not three years down the road. I thought ECW, who for the second year in a row got screwed on the WWE Draft, had a better draft selection than the Rockets. I was not a happy camper.
The Rockets redeemed themselves in my eyes when they traded Batum to Portland Trailblazers for Joey Dorsey and Darrell Arthur. Arthur is a versatile type of player who can play both forward positions. That means he can backup or start opposite of Shane Battier, Carl Landry, and Luis Scola. Joey Dorsey is the type of big man they can groom to succeed Yao Ming or fill in his spot if he gets hurt because Dikembe Mutombo is getting to old to play for a prolong period of time in games. He can point up the points that need to be put up and that is something that Chuck Hayes can’t seem to do. So what started out as a terrible draft turned out to be really good overall and the Rockets added some key weapons to strengthen and add some depth to their bench.
Update. The Rockets traded Arthur to the Grizzlies for Donté Greene. I’m happy with this pick since Green and Arthur are basically the same type of player. Same size, weight, and positions played. Green will fill in the spots I mentioned above.
My top five draft picks in the 2008 draft in no particular order where
1. Chris Douglas-Roberts
2. Jerryd Bayless
3. Derrick Rose
4. Michael Beasley
5. Kevin Love/Brook and Robin Lopez
